Center for Advanced Technology (CAT)
Scientific Discovery, Research & Development Collaborator
The CAT conducts high level research in areas related to the development of
products and processes using light enabled technologies. These include: optical
medical diagnostics, optical imaging, tunable solid state lasers, ultrafast laser
technology, optical semiconductor materials and devices, nanoscale photonic
materials and devices, compact photonic devices, optical communications,
biological sensing and processes, optical computing and optical bio-defense.
Led by Professor Robert R. Alfano, Distinguished Professor of Science &
Engineering for the Institute of Ultrafast Spectroscopy and Lasers and his staff of
researchers; Prof. Alfano’s research interests are rooted in biomedical imaging and
spectroscopy, ultrafast lasers and optics, tunable lasers, semiconductor materials
and devices, optical materials, biophysics, nonlinear optics and photonics.
Alfano is a shareholder of Mediscience; Chairman of the Mediscience Scientific
Advisory Group; possesses 84 patents, including the “Stokes-Shift Spectroscopy
for Detection of Disease and Physiological State of Specimen", has been cited in
over 600 journals; and received 150 grant awards totaling $44 million.

Clinical Research and Regulatory Affairs
Schiff & Company, founded in 1982, is an international
Regulatory Affairs and Clinical Research Organization.
Senior Management personnel each have more than 25
years experience in the health care and FDA regulatory
fields.
Schiff & Company will conduct and monitor clinical
studies for Mediscience diagnostic devices. Schiff
represent both domestic and international organizations to
the FDA and to foreign regulatory bodies. Will write all
appropriate regulatory filings.
Schiff staff plans regulatory strategy, prepares clinical
development plans, performs GMP and validation audits,
writes SOP’s and conducts due diligence.
