In January, 1993, under the chairmanship of Professor Robert
R. Alfano, Distinguished Professor of Science and Engineering, CCNY, Mediscience Technology established its Scientific Advisory Board.
The objective was providing critical review and analysis of its R & D programs
in the area of photonics (lasers and optics), as well as functioning as a source
of information on new product ideas, new technologies and current research activities.
Its role served the company well during the formal stages of research.
Comprised of
Dr. Frederick Naftolin and one other continuing member,
Dr. Stimson Schantz,
the Scientific Advisory Board is soon to be expanded be expanded to increase
representation from the medical arts, including pathology. These medical
specialists are skilled in the medical fields of primary interest to the company.
Moreover, they will advise us regarding priorities and unmet needs in their
respective disciplines, as well as in matters such as physician's habits and
preferences that would influence product design and configuration.
Dr. Stimson Pryor Schantz
In 1970, Dr. Schantz received a B.A. from Harvard College; thereafter, his Doctor of Medicine from the College of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati. Postdoctoral training was completed at Georgetown University Hospital, University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, and the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
His academic appointments include the following medical teaching facilities:
- M.D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute
- Department of Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
- Department of Surgery at Memorial Sloan- Kettering Cancer Center
- Adjunct Scientist at the American Health Foundation
- Senior Scientist at the Strang Cancer Prevention Society
- Currently Professor of Otolaryngology at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.
Dr. Schantz is a member of numerous professional medical editorial boards including:
- Archives of Otolaryngology
- Archives of Cancer Surgery
- Cancer Bulletin
- Cancer Research
- Head and Neck Surgery
- New England Journal of Medicine
- Otolaryngology
- Year Book of Cancer
- Cancer Patient Follow-Up
Dr. Schantz has generated an extensive list of research grants. He has been the recipient of many professional honors and awards for his work in medical research.
During his career, he has published nearly 145 peer-reviewed papers as well as many invited articles in professional medical journals. Moreover, he has rendered substantial contributions to many medical books in highly specialized areas of cancer studies and research.
Participating in several research studies dealing with cancer detection through the use of the native cellular fluorescence technology pioneered by the Mediscience Technology Corporation, he has contributed to the following articles with the collaboration of Professor Alfano and others:
